*** SAFE 01/26/18 *** SECOND CHANCE TONIGHT FOR CASTALIA!! MAKE IT COUNT!! WATCH HER VIDEO! CASTALIA is a healthy kitty who is not happy at being brought to the shelter. She is only nervous in the shelter and will make a wonderful companion if you adopt her now – she needs a rescue angel tonight! MUST RESERVE BY NOON!!

MANHATTAN CENTER

Hello, my name is Castalia. My animal id is #18492. I am a female brown tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years old. – P

I came into the shelter as a aco impound on 17-Jan-2018.

Original Location: 10473

Castalia is at risk for behavior reasons. Castalia allows brief petting, but will show discomfort and then shift away to avoid further contact. She seems always to be be wary of her surroundings. Medically, Castalia has a heart murmur, which precludes her from surgery, but otherwise presents as a healthy cat.

My medical notes are…

Weight: 7.4 lbs

  • Behavior History
  • Behavior Assessment

Friendly house cat, allows handling

KNOWN HISTORY:: Castalia was brought in as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 1/17 Observed Behavior – timid – allowed for examination very easily but upon injecting vaccination became fractious.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 1/18/18 Curled up at back of cubby behind litter box, tense, eyes dilated. Lay in place when door opened, very alert, focused on assess-a-hand. Leaned away from touch, hissed, started lip licking. 1/21/18 Dozing behind litter box. Looked up and became alert when door opened, eyes dilated. Tolerated brief pets, then flinched away. Tolerated further touch while eating, otherwise moved around to avoid. Still seems uncomfortable with surroundings.

Cage Condition:: No change

Reaction to assessor:: Castalia remains neutral, sitting upright behind the litter box in the cage cubby.

Reaction when softly spoken to:: Castalia becomes alert with eyes wide open.

Reaction to cage door opening:: Castalia becomes stiff, ears erect and forward.

Reaction to touch:: Castalia accepts a brief touch on the head and body, but began to stress meow after a few strokes. She got agitated then began to hiss and swat at the assessor’s hand to stop the interaction.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Curious,Independent

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only

Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Castalia may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to her new home and family at her own pace.
