**SAFE 07/06/16** NEW HOPE RESCUE ONLY-Carmen is a brown tabby mix brought in as a stray. At just 4 years old, she probably has never been shown one act of kindness in her life. How horrible that she finds herself hiding under a blanket in her cage while the ACC workers try to get her to come to them to be petted and photographed. Since she was a stray she must have street smarts and knows that they are just killing time until her time is up. She needs a cat savvy person who can see her potential instead of being marked as uncooperative because she doesn’t jump through the ACC circus hoops. Please apply to a New Hope Rescue Partner tonight to give this girl the home that she deserves.

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Carmen was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. Reaction to assessor: Carmen was hiding underneath her blanket at the back of the kennel. Reaction when softly spoken to: Carmen lip licks with wide eyes focused on all movements but doesn’t come forward. Reaction to cage door opening: Carmen remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Carmen tolerates petting briefly with eyes fixated on the assessor’s hand. Her ears flatten then she hisses and swats and doesn’t allow any more contact. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Carmen is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat and is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
