Lying in front of kennel, body tense. Makes eye contact when spoken to and tolerates petting along his head and body while turning head to watch my hand, ears flat and eyes opened wide. Whites of eyes are visible. Needs more time to adjust.

Lying in litterbox, body tense and ears tilted. Makes eye contact when spoken to, then looks away. Not interested in treats at the moment – too nervous and focused on me. Tolerates petting briefly before getting up and retreating through portal with a low body, tail tucked between legs. Needs more time to adjust.
