Hello, my name is Cam. My animal id is #20534. I am a desexed male orange tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 12-Feb-2018, with the surrender reason stated as animal circumstance – abandoned by previous owner.

Cam is at risk for behavior reasons. Cam is very scared in the care center, and though he will allow petting when pressed, he spends almost all of his time hiding in his den. Medically, we have no concerns for Cam, who presents as a healthy cat.

Surgery Notes Was this cat a Cryptorchid? Yes. right testicle in scortum and left testicle in inguinal canal If so, describe surgical process: Made a single 1cm vertical incision in midline of the scrotum. Exteriosed then excised the right testicle and auto-ligated the pedicle and spermatic cord. The left inguinal canal was exteriorized through the same incision site, excised and autoligated Routine Feline Neuter Self tie of spermatic cord Surgeon: 1493 Additional Note: tattoo placed right of the scrotum

NSAID: Robenicoxib 20mg/mL injectable, 0.55 mL, SQ, once, for post operative pain relief. Given pre operatively. Other: Simbadol 1.8mg/mL injectable, 0.7 mL SQ, once, for post operative pain relief, given pre operatively. Recovery Status: Antisedam 5 mg/ml, injectable 0.05 IM, once at 5:11 pm Uneventful Anesthesiologist/Surgical Monitor: 0811/1154

Upon intake, Cam was growling and hissing at counselor. When trying to scan for microchip, Cam swatted at microchip scanner. Did not handle due to temperament and took picture inside carrier.

Basic Information:: Cam is a male, domestic shorthair cat. Cam originally belonged to owners roommate but the owner abandoned him in his home and has had him for 3 months. Unfortunately he has to surrender because he does not have time to care for the cat. Cam has no known health issues and has not been to the vet.
If yes, Please elaborate:: Cam will urinate inside the bathtub a few times a week.

How is this cat around strangers?: Cam is friendly and outgoing with strangers. He plays gently with adults.
How is this cat around children?: Cam has spent time around an 9 year old child and he tolerant. He does not play with the child.
How is this cat around other cats?: Cam has never spent time around other cats.
How is this cat around dogs?: Cam has never spent time around other dogs.
Behavior Notes: Cam will scratch furniture, and will pee in the tub sometimes instead of the litter box. He sleeps in car rides. Previous owner has never given cam a bath, trimmed his nails, brushed his cot, or picked him up. Cam will go into carrier when bribed with food.
Bite history:: Cam has never bitten another person or animal.

For a New Family to Know: Cam is described as a mellow, friendly, independent cat. He has a medium energy level and rarely seeks attention. He is indoors only. Doesn’t play with toys and sleeps in the living room. He eats purina dry food that is available to him all day. He is litter box trained and uses a covered litter box with clumping litter. He may urinate in the tub a few times a week. He has a rough rope scratching post.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 2/13/18 Observed Behavior -hissing swatting at handler, allowed exam in net (shut down behavior)
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 2/13/18 In den on approach, started shifting in place when spoken to. No response when door opened. Slowly started hissing when given treats, then abruptly struck interior den wall. 2/14/18 In den on approach, peeking through holes, eyes dilated. No response to being spoken to, or door opening. Lay in place, tolerated pets, grumbled quietly. Started hissing after door closed. 2/18/18 Resting in den, peeking through window, eyes fully dilated, very tense posture. Lay in place when door opened, sniffed treats, but didn’t eat, started lip licking. Leaned away to avoid touch, started grumbling quietly. Hissed when door closed.
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Cam remains tense, crouched position hiding in the cat den during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Cam becomes alert with eyes wide open, pupils dilated.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Cam remains stiff, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Cam hisses at the assessor’s hand, but allows the petting while focusing on the hand and growling.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Cam may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to his new home and family at his own pace.
