09/04/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Cali was brought in with limited information on her behavioral tendencies in a home environment. Her last caretaker reports she is very independent and always sues the litter box. She lived with another cat and two dogs. She allowed handling upon intake, but displayed distance-increasing behaviors during her initial medical exam. Reaction to assessor: Cali was lying down, calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Cali slowly comes to the front and sticks one of her paws out. Reaction to cage door opening: Cali greets the assessor by the opening and looks around. Reaction to touch: Cali head-butts, starts to knead, and begins to purr. She allows petting on her head and on her body, but appeared distracted by things going on in her surroundings. Reaction to being picked up: Cali was tense during pick up (possibly due to girth), and struggles to be placed back down. Behavior Determination: Experience Cali interacts with the observer and appreciates attention, but she may be a little stressed in the shelter environment and may dislike being picked up due to her girth. She may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
