11/22/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Cahcita’s previous owner only had her for two days and reports she is very independent and doesn’t like to be held, touched, or bothered. She hissed and ran from the owner, rarely interacting with them. The owner believes she would do best in an experienced home. She did enjoy playing with a laser pointer, however. The enrichment facilitator reports she was hunkered down on her blanket with her legs underneath. She didn’t make much eye contact during their first interaction, and appeared tense and wary. She remained in place when the cage door opens, but gave clear warnings she wasn’t ready for touch or handling. She continued to display the same behaviors the next day, and wasn’t receptive to interaction. Reaction to assessor: Cahcita was lying down in the middle of her kennel, with a neutral body posture. Reaction when softly spoken to: Cahcita becomes alert and focuses on the assessor, but her gaze softens and she blinks gently. Reaction to cage door opening: Cahcita lifts her head to look at the cage door opening, remaining calm. Reaction to touch: Cahcita sniffs the assessor’s hand, but shifts away as the assessor extends it further. She does not allow touch; she pats the assessor’s hand multiple times with her nails extended, but didn’t use a lot of force. She lip licks and blinks softly afterwards. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Cahcita is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. She may have a known history of behavioral issues that need to be addressed. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
