Hello, my name is Buzz. My animal id is #11706. I am a desexed male orange tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 11 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 04-Nov-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving – no pets allowed.
uzz is a geriatric cat that we recommend go to an adult only home. He is at risk due to his fearful behavior in the care center. He tolerates petting but should be in an environment where he can acclimate at his own pace.

Behavior Condition: 4. Orange
Upon intake, Buzz was meowing very loudly and when approached would growl. Buzz allowed to be collared inside his carrier but would try to hide his face and had his ears pointing back. Buzz had to be scruffed to be taken out of his carrier and plaved inside his kennel.

Basic Information:: Buzz is approximately an 11 year old male orange tabby and white cat. Buzz lived with previous owner for about 11 years and he was adopted from a friend who had kittens. Buzz was surrenders because owner was moving and his new landlord did not allow pets. Buzz has no known injuries or health problems and has not been taken to the vet recently.
Previously lived with:: Buzz previously lived with one adult.
How is this cat around strangers?: Buzz is shy around strangers but will come out in a few minutes to sniff strangers. Buzz will allow strangers to pet him.
How is this cat around children?: Buzz has only interacted with previous owner’s 11 year old cousin. Buzz is respectful and will allow pets but will not allow to be picked up. Buzz will walk away when he no longer wants attention.
How is this cat around other cats?: Unknown.
How is this cat around dogs?: Unknown.
Behavior Notes: During car rides, Buzz will meow and cry. Buzz has never been given a bath and his nails have never been trimmed. Buzz enjoys having his coat brushed but does not like being picked up and held. Buzz will meow and run away when someone attempts to pick him up. Buzz will meow when being put into a carrier but previous owner would wrap him up in a towel to place him in the carrier. Buzz is not bothered when being disturbed while sleeping.
Bite history:: Buzz has never tried to bite another animal or human.

For a New Family to Know: Buzz is an independent, playful, confident and sometimes shy cat. Buzz likes to sleep and observe his surroundings and likes to sleep anywhere in the house. Buzz is an indoors only cat and was fed Friskies wet food 3 times a day. Buzz is litter box trained and used a hooded litter box with Fresh Step cat litter. Buzz did not have a scratching post because his front paws are declawed.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 11/5- Observed Behavior – aggressive/unable to fully examine
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 11/5/17 Declawed front paws. Just moved into new cage. Hunched in middle of kennel, extremely tense, eyes fully dilated. Flattened ears, started deep growling, lip licking when door opened. Left alone for now. Sprayed thunderease. 11/6/17 Laying down at back, eyes dilated, face behind litter box. Started growling when cover lifted. Sat up when door opened, hissed and leaned away from touch, started lip licking. Sprayed thunderease.
Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:: Buzz remains neutral, lying down on his cage bedding during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Buzz becomes alert with eyes wide open.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Buzz remains in place, ears erect and forward with eyes wandering.
Reaction to touch:: Buzz flinches when touched and slowly increases distance while grumbling in place. However, he slowly allows the petting and began to slightly lean into the assessor’s hand but remains cautious with his surroundings.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Buzz tolerates attention and petting but may be stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to his/her new home and family at his/her own pace.
