09/26/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Butter was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Very nervous but did not try to bite or scratch. Easily handle able. Did well for all medical handling and procedures ENRICHMENT NOTES: 09/25/17 Lying In litterbox with a low body and flat ears. She stretches and comes forward when spoken to, then begins to roll on the kennel floor and reach out towards me with soft paws. Becomes upset as I begin unlocking the kennel door and sits up, body tensing and ears flattening. Watches my hands and begins to hiss and swat through the kennel door. Retreats through portal as I open the kennel door, then comes back forward with a raised tail. Allows petting along head and body while leaning in, tail raised. Some conflicted behaviors 09/26/17 Sitting upright in back of kennel, eyes alert and pupils dilated. Ears flatten and she swats at the air as I begin to unlock the kennel door. She retreats through her portal as I reach towards her with the bear-claw, then comes back forward with her tail raised to greet it with a head-butt. Allows petting along head while leaning in, turns around and head-butts kennel wall and rolls over. She tenses her body as the bear-claw passes along her back and vocalizes, whipping her head around. When she’s had enough she will flatten her ears and bat the bear-claw in warning. Showing signs of pet-induced aggression. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Butter was lying down and alert near the back of the kennel. Reaction when softly spoken to: Butter looks over at the assessor then slowly comes forward and rolls over on her side. Reaction to cage door opening: Butter pauses then meows softly and retreats to the back. Reaction to touch: Butter sniffs the assessor then slowly leans in allowing gentle petting on her head and body. She keeps her tail lowered, and seems a little unsure when interacting with the assessor. Her tail starts to flick, she tenses up, lip licks and quickly whips around and bats at the assessor’s hand when pet for too long. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Timid RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced, adult home only – Butter tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
