Hello, my name is Buddy. My animal id is #12655. I am a male gray tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 7 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a stray on 14-Nov-2017.
Buddy is at risk due to having FELV. He currently is under medical observation and was presented to ACC with dehydration and lethargy. There are no known behavior concerns for Buddy at this time, average determination.

BARH scan negative male intact appx 4 yrs old very nervous, hissing, swating mild tartar occulonasal d/c dirty face and body coat mild dehydration FeLV positive BCS 4/9
Paced IVC in RFL cephalic vessel. 22g with t port attachment. 30ml/hr LRS running. CBC/Chemistry blood sample drawn using a 25g butterfly catheter and 3ml syringe from RHL medial saphenous vessel.
Scanned bloodwork is for this patient “Buddy” (12655) which is mis-typed on bloodwork papers (12665).
DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 6-10 years based on dentition and overall appearance Microchip noted on Intake? Scanned neg on intake; MC was placed History : Stray, finder suspects that pt got into a fight due to wounds noted on head. FeLV pos. Subjective: Quiet, lying down in the kennel, not moving Observed Behavior – Allows most handling. Becomes tense with prolonged exam. Objective MMs pink. BAR, estimated 10% dehydrated based on decreased skin turgor. BCS 4/9. EENT: OD severe chemosis, moderate mucoid discharge and periocular swelling especially on the dorsolateral aspect of the eye. No corneal opacity is noted. Moderate dry mucoid nasal discharge. Clean ears. Oral Exam: Missing multiple incisors, severe dental tartar and gingivitis. H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Doughy abdomen. U/G: Male intact, testicles S/S MSI: Crouched low to the kennel floor. Skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: Normal externally. CBC: Anemic (Hct 27%). Leukocytosis (WBC 23.6), neutrophilia (13.7), monocytosis (2.74). Chemistry: Normal glucose, BUN, creat. Total protein is 8.8, albumin is 2.4, hyperglobulinemia (6.4). Normal liver values and electrolytes. Assessment: 1. FeLV 2. Dental disease 3. Dehydration 4. URI and conjunctivitis – possibly traumatic component to conjunctivitis 5. Anemia – R/O sequela of FeLV vs. anemia of chronic disease vs. other 6. Hyperglobulinemia – R/O URI/conjunctivitis/dental disease Prognosis: Fair Plan: 1. Place IVC, run LRS at 30 ml/hr x12 hours, then reassess and if pt is urinating well and appears better hydrated, decrease rate to 20 ml/hr 2. Start doxycycline 0.7 ml PO SID x10 days 3. Nebulize BID x5 days 4. Erythromycin OU BID x10 days 5. Recommend dental cleaning SURGERY: Temporary waiver due to URI and anemia 1088
Dehydrated, URI, conjunctivitis on intake; IVF running at 20 ml/hr S/O -QAR, shy/nervous but docile and warms up if you go slowly -good appetite -large urination in box -mm pk, tacky; CRT <2 sec -mild crusting bloody discharge around nares but no active discharge -OU: mild blepharospasm, serous drainage -eupnic, no murmurs/arrhythmias noted -mild “fat paw” on RF due to catheter -soft abdomen A dehydration-improving URI/conjunctivitis-improving “fat paw” P re-wrap catheter decrease IVF to 10 ml/hr overnight, reassess rate in AM prognosis: good
Hx: FeLV, URI, dental disease. On IV LRS at 10 ml/hr. Received Convenia on 11/16/17. Developed fat paw yesterday from tight catheter wrap; tape was cut and bridged yesterday and the swelling has gone down markedly. Good appetite. S: Quiet in kennel, alert O: QAR, estimated 8-10% dehydrated based on decreased skin turgor, MMs pink EENT: Missing many teeth, and pt has severe gingivitis and stomatitis even where there are no teeth present. Jaws chatter when I examine teeth. Mild mucoid ocular and nasal discharge. H/L: NSR, NMA. Abd: Slightly firm, not doughy A: 1. FeLV 2. URI 3. Dental disease and gingivostomatitis P: 1. Increased IV fluids to 15 ml/hr 2. Add Simbadol 0.45 ml SQ SID x5 days 1088
Recheck in med-iso for URI: S/O: QAR mildly dehydrated – on 10 ml/hr LRS IV – mild sneeze/serous nasal discharge persists – good appetite for wet food this AM A: mild/mod URI resolving P: cont. with current tx
Recheck URI, day 5 doxycycline; IVF d/c overnight S/O -great appetite -QAR, skittish but docile, warms up if you go slowly -mm pk, sl tacky; moderate stomatitis, no active ulceration -no nasal discharge or sneezing, mild nasal stridor -OU: slightly elevated 3rd eyelid -eupnic -soft abdomen -ambulatory x 4 A URI/conjunctivitis Felv Stomatitis P CWCT recheck in 2 days
IVC is flowing and was flowing through out the night. Reduction of tape appears to have helped Buddy’s paw.

Behavior Condition: 4. Orange
Upon intake buddy was calm however due to injuries he was not handled. He allowed counselor to place him in a carrier but no further handling was performed.
KNOWN HISTORY:: Buddy was brought in as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior – Allows most handling. Becomes tense with prolonged exam.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: Curled up in litter box, right eye very weepy, hypersalivating. Seems really lethargic, rundown. Lay in place when door opened, allowed all pets, too suck to respond.
Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:: Buddy remains neutral, crouched position with head up on his cage bedding.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Buddy becomes alert with soft eyes.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Buddy remains immobile in place.
Reaction to touch:: Buddy slowly leans into the assessor’s hand, purrs and appreciates the petting on the head and body.
Reaction to being picked up:: He becomes antsy then jumps back into the cage.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Calm,Sweet
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Average
Behavior Asilomar: H – Healthy
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Buddy interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
