*** SAFE 11/12/17 *** BRUGAL was brought in by his finder because he was ill and seemed to have lameness. He is 3 yrs old and has a URI, is emaciated and has a wound on his tail. He also has some diarrhea. Brugal needs follow up vet care to get him back to health. Can you offer this boy a home?

Hello, my name is Brugal. My animal id is #11519. I am a male white cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a stray on 02-Nov-2017.
Brugal is at risk due to a severe upper Respiratory Infection which is contagious to other cats. Brugal will need a home that can monitor recovery with antibiotics to ensure conditions doesn’t worsen. there are no known behavior conditions for Brugal at this time.

DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 2-5 years based on dentition and overall appearance Microchip noted on Intake? Scanned neg History : Finder has seen this cat before, he has had a runny nose for a little while. Today he appeared to be limping as well so she brought him in. She gave him 0.3 ml buprenorphine PO that she had left over from a kitten she had fostered. (If this is 0.3 mg/ml buprenorphine, then she gave him a 0.024 mg/kg dose.) Subjective: Quiet, moves slowly, alert Observed Behavior – Allows all handling Objective QAR, estimated 5% dehydrated, pale MMs, BCS 3/9 EENT: Severe crusty yellow nasal discharge blocking the nose. Eyes clear. Moderate black granular debris AU. Oral Exam: Mild mucoid discharge. Moderate gingivitis, mild tartar. PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, Wheezes, stertor, stridor, increased resp effort. ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: Male intact MSI: Ambulatory x 4, small wound on dorsal proximal tail – scab, surrounding alopecia, minimal erythema, no swelling or discharge. No wounds, swellings or other injuries noted to the legs. Fleas and copious flea dirt. Feces dried to fur of hind legs, tail and abdomen. CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: Normal externally. Assessment: 1. Severe URI 2. Likely ear mites 3. Wound on tail 4. Fleas 5. Lameness reported, no consistent injury – R/O weakness or ataxia misinterpreted as lameness 6. Apparent diarrhea – parvo test neg 7. Gingivitis 8. Emaciation Prognosis: Fair Plan: 1. Doxycycline 0.8 ml PO SID x10 days 2. Clean ears/Tresaderm AU BID x10 days 3. Nebulize BID x5 days 4. Monitor for lameness 5. Gave Capstar at time of exam (plus topical flea meds) 6. LRS 200 ml SQ SID x4 days SURGERY: Temporary waiver due to disease 1088
Hx: Presented yesterday with dehydration, URI, wound on tail. Started on antibiotics and SQF. CBC/chemistry performed: Glu 155 Globs 5.3 Microcytic hypochromic anemia (Hct 30.9%), retic count 84.8 k/ul. WBC 47k/ul, neutrophils 43 k/ul Anemia and signs of severe infection – R/O URI vs. dental disease vs. wound to tail vs. other Recheck appetite, attitude, hydration tomorrow, change tx plan as needed 1088
Recheck in med iso with Hx of poor BCS, diarrhea, incr WBC, anemia, dehydration, tail wound, URI, gingivitis: S/O: Resting quietly in kennel, able to handle, alert for PE – mild dehydration, limited appetite – mild crusting nasal discharge/incr upper airway sounds – mod URI – gingivitis, small ulcerations on the tip of tongue – amb x 4, snp abd A: condition stable, appears improved from yesterday P: cont. with current tx, monitor appetite + Simbadol 0.5 ml SQ SID x 5 days

Brugal had a relaxed body posture. He lay in the rear end of the carrier and remained there very calmly. He was receptive to handling and allowed the admissions counselor to collar him. He was slow blinking.

Basic Information:: Brugal arrived as a stray to MACC. He is a white and black domestic short hair cat. He was brought to MACC because he was found limping in the streets.
Previously lived with:: Unknown.
KNOWN HISTORY:: Brugal was brought in as a stray, so there is no information on their behavior history or tendencies in a home environment. Brugal had a relaxed body posture during intake and he lied in the rear end of the carrier and blinking softly. He was receptive to handling and allowed the admissions counselor to collar him.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Subjective: Quiet, moves slowly, alert. Allows all handling.
Cage Condition:: Cage is slightly re-arranged
Reaction to assessor:: Brugal was calm and relaxed.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Brugal looks at the assessor and starts to eat while purring.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Brugal remains soft and relaxed.
Reaction to touch:: Brugal accepts petting, continues to purr, and leans in for cheek and chin rubs.
Reaction to being picked up:: Brugal remains soft and allows all handling.
