07/17/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Bliss was brought in as a stray, so there is no information on his behavior in his previous home. He allowed limited handling during intake, but attempted to flee. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – Timid, tries to flee ENRICHMENT NOTES: 07/14/17 Tense and alert, pinned against the back wall of the kennel. His back is arched and he seems very wary of his surroundings; constantly lowering his head and slow blinking when people walk by. He flinches and turns his head towards the wall when the door opens. Not open to interacting today, stressed. He tolerates touch but looks away and has a tense body. 07/15/17 Crouched and lying down against the back wall with his head buried under his blanket. He tries to avoid eye contact and trembles when approached. His eyes widen, ears bend flat and he hisses when touched. Less tolerant today and was just hyper focuses on my hand. Wasn’t interested in treats or tuna. Needs more time to adjust, adoptions may be too busy for him. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Bliss was lying down in his litter box, calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Bliss looks at the assessor and blinks softly. Reaction to cage door opening: Bliss becomes stiff and alert, flattening his body. Reaction to touch: Bliss becomes tense, but sniffs the assessor’s hand when approached slowly. He flinches when pet gently and his ears tilt sideways, but he tolerates petting and slowly leans in for light cheek rubs. He may be unsure of petting, but he mostly appeared wary of noise and movement in his surroundings. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Timid, Independent RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced, adult home only – Bliss tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may need time to warm up to his new home and family. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
