SAFE 10/23/16 HAS 4 PUNCTURE WOUNDS FROM UNKNOWN SOURCE
Meet Benedict: This handsome young man came in with bite wounds of an unknown origin on his legs. His wounds are healing very well and he’s ready to start the next chapter of his life! Because the wounds are of an unknown origin, he will need an in-home 6 month observation with periodic calls to the Department of Health. Please help out a kitty in need!
A staff member writes: Benedict is a sweet little guy that had a bit of a rough start before he came to us at ACC. After living outside for several weeks he was brought to us with a big wound on his leg and was very nervous. We looked after him and now Benedict is feeling much better! His leg is all healed up and he loves to show us his gratitude with snuggles and head-butts. This handsome dude is now ready to find his forever home where he will know that he can stay inside and cuddle on the couch. If you looking for a forever friend, look no farther!

Behavior
Reaction to assessor: Benedict looks tense, crouched position at the back when approached by the assessor.
Reaction to door opening: Benedict retreats to the back of the cage while yowling, alert with eyes wide open.
Reaction to touch: Benedict flinches during the stroke and seems wary with his surroundings.
Placement determination: Experience / no child
Benedict may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
Enrichment
8/28/16
Bite wound on front limb. More hungry than anything. Came to the front when door opened, some meowing (in pain?) Allowed and briefly leaned and arched into pets, very distracted by eating.
8/29/16
Actively soliciting attention today. Still lots of meowing, unsure if pain response or just generally very vocal. Came to the front when spoken to, leaned and arched into pets.
8/30/16
Moved to holding. Still very vocal, but more active and alert today. At the front, meowing, rubbing, and reaching through the bars. Lay down, leaned hard into pets, almost fell out of kennel.
8/31/16
Still very vocal. At the front, meowing and rubbing against the bars. Leaned into pets, closed eyes, continued meowing.
9/1/16
No change. At the front, meowing and rubbing against the bars. Leaned enthusiastically into pets.
9/6/16
Still very vocal. Seems a little unsure and head-shy now, possibly due to repeatedly being medicated. Still appreciates and leans into pets along body.
9/7/16
Still very vocal. Increasingly concerned this is a pain response. Continues to be extremely head shy. Ducked away and retreated around kennel to avoid touch, until warmed up with pets along body.
09/08/16
Very vocal by the front. Tried some clicker training today and he showed interest in tuna, reaching out to touch my hand. He lost some interest halfway in, but interest increased when shown tuna on my hand. He becomes less vocal during training, and slowly lied down in a relaxed position with his paws tucked under his body. Training ended there.
No change in temperament, still friendly but head shy. Warmed up and leaned into pets after some strokes along the body.
9/11/16
No real change, a little less head-shy today. Came to the front when spoken to, leaned and arched into pets. Really likes treats. Meowed the entire time, as usual.
