08/29/17 13:58 Bella is a ten year old spayed white medium sized cat. Bella was surrendered to ACC due to her health and owner no longer being able to care for her. She was given to owner from a friend in San Diego California about seven years ago. Bella was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, she is currently on medication. Bella is declawed on her front paws. Bella has lived with two adults in her previous home. Bella is described as a friendly cat and especially loves males. She likes attention and will greet visitors in the home. Bella has spent time with children ages one to about five years old. Owner stated Bella is great with older children who are respectful of her space. If a child pulls her tail Bella will hiss, swat and nip if they continue to approach her. Bella has spent time with other cats, owner stated she will hiss and swat at the other cat if she is approached. Bella spent time with a small breed dog, owner stated it took a long time for Bella to warm up but after some time she was relaxed and affectionate towards the dog. She would cuddle and lay with him. Bella has not bitten while in her previous home. Bella is litterbox trained and was provided a hooded litterbox and clay litter. Bella does not like to be bathed and owner stated she will attempt to flee and struggles. Bella is declawed and does not scratch in the home. Bella takes some time to warm up to being held; owner stated she takes a few visits before a person can hold her. Bella has been kept only indoors. Bella likes to play with chasing toys and has a medium activity level. Bella eats Natural Balance dry food and is fed chicken once a day. Bella sleeps in her owner’s bed and is described as a great companion pet. Bella loves to lay with her owner and kneed and purr.

KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: Adults Behavior toward strangers: Friendly and attention seeking Behavior toward children: She was respectful around them and would give warning signs when they play to rough with her. Behavior toward cats: Displays distance increasing behaviors Behavior toward dogs: Spent time with a small dog and was relaxed and affectionate. Bite or Scratch history: None Litter box training: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Medium activity level Other notes: She loves to lay with her owner and kneed and purr. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Growling, vocal, hissing but allow full exam and intake procedures ENRICHMENT NOTES: 09/05/17 Vocalizing loudly, ears forward. Comes to the front of the kennel and allows petting along head and body. After a few moments she becomes upset and flattens her ears. Crouches down and hisses. Conflicted. Needs more time to adjust. 09/05/17 In front of kennel, vocalizing loudly. She walks towards the back of her kennel as I open the kennel door and crouches down. Sniffs the treats I have in my hand and then eats them. She allows petting initially, remaining in gently, then makes eye contact and hisses, ears flattening down. I continue to pet her gently along her head and body and she rolls over onto her side. Turns head and bites the bear-claw when it passes right along the base of her tail. Conflicted and unsure. Seems to be uncomfortable with being touched in certain areas. May be discomfort or may be a sign of petting induced aggression. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Bella was resting on her blanket at the back of the kennel. Reaction when softly spoken to: Bella turns towards the assessor and meows softly. Reaction to cage door opening: Bella is alert and continues to vocalize Reaction to touch: Bella squints when the assessor extends his hand out and seems a little unsure of contact. She warms up and eventually leans in for attention and raises her back when rubbed. Reaction to being picked up: Bella whines when picked up but allows all handling. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Somewhat chatty CHARACTER TYPE: Calm, Sweet BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Average Bella interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
