09/20/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
As per previous owner, Bella will approach strangers and allows them to pet her. She lived with children ages 6 and up and usually keeps to herself and watches them play. Bella enjoys having her coat brushed and doesn’t mind being picked up. She uses a scratching post made of carpet and likes playing with wands, balls and string. Her owner describes her as a playful, gentle and affectionate cat. Reaction to assessor: Bella was at the front of the kennel looking out at her surroundings. Reaction when softly spoken to: Bella’s tail starts to flicker and she lip licks when the assessor called her name. Reaction to cage door opening: Bella rises up and looks around, wary of her surroundings. Reaction to touch: Bella sniffs the assessors hand then leans away and growls when attempting to make contact. She arches her back, swats at the assessor and allows very limited contact. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Bella is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
