Observed Behavior – very sweet. Easily handleable. Did well for all medical handling and procedures

R = eupneic

EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal discharge noted
Oral Exam: clean adult dentition, no oral lesions noted
PLN: No enlargements noted
H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupneic but panted a little after exam
ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated, large ~3-4cm reducible hernia at cranial abdomen
U/G: FI, no MGTs, no vulvar d/c
MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat, arched back with palpable spinal defect mid-thorax
CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities
Assessment:
Large reducible abdominal hernia
Healed fracture of vertebra at thoracolumbar junction
Plan: Continue to monitor while at BACC
Rads-Healed fracture of vertebra at thoracolumbar junction and large defect in ventral abdominal wall
Will need reduction of hernia at spay
Prognosis: Good
SURGERY: permanent waiver at BACC due to spinal fracture and hernia

Basic Information:
Bella was found as a stray a few months ago and taken in by the finders. She is approximately a 4 month old, DSH female who was not spayed prior to coming into the shelter. She last saw a vet when the finders first took her in and was surrendered due to lack of time to care for her.

Behavior Notes
Bella’s owner stated that she tried to bathe her but she struggled to get out of the tub. They have not brushed her or trimmed her nails. She allows the family to pick her up and hold her.

Bella’s owner stated that they noticed the cat walks “odd.” Counselor noticed her spine appeared to be curved but it does not inhibit her from running jumping or playing.
For a New Family to Know
Bella is described as being friendly, affectionate and playful. She has been an indoor cat and likes to follow the family around when they are home. She likes to play with toy balls, strings, wands and stuffed toys. She sleeps anywhere in the home and eats both wet and dry food. She is litter box trained using an uncovered box and clumping litter. She uses a scratching post made of cardboard.

Bella was sweet and friendly during intake. She allowed for all handling.
