Hunched over

ENRICHMENT NOTES:
05/08/18
Lying in litterbox with a low, tense body, ears tilted. Tolerates petting along head and body while turning head slowly to watch my hand, ears remaining slightly titled to the side. Needs more time to adjust.

05/09/18
Lying in litterbox, ears forward and body tense. Makes eye contact and tolerates petting along head and body, leaning in gently for chin and cheek rubs. Not ready to come forward. May have potential to warm up – more relaxed today.

Cage Condition:
Cage is neat

Reaction to assessor:
Bee was lying down underneath her kuranda bed, with her tail wrapped around her body.

Reaction when softly spoken to:
Bee remains completely still, but her eyes follow the assessor’s movements.

Reaction to cage door opening:
Bee tenses up and slowly shifts away with her tail tucked under her body.

Reaction to touch:
Bee starts breathing rapidly and looks around the kennel frantically when the assessor extends his hand out. She recoils from touch, but slowly starts to warm up with attention. She leans in for rubs on her cheeks, gives head butts, but isn’t confident enough to come forward.

Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE:

Timid

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Fearful

Potential challenges comments:
Bee has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
