Basic Information:: Beans is a domestic short-haired stray cat that was found in a basement of a building.
KNOWN HISTORY:: Beans was brought in as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 10/22/17 In cubby, looking around with furrowed eyes and tilted ears. Blinks softly when spoken to, but lip licks and retreats when door opens. Shifts away when hand extends, not ready to interact yet. Sprayed Feliway and offered treats. Her body posture relaxed when interaction is over. 10/23/17 Curled up behind litter box, eyes fully dilated. Sat up when door opened. Sniffed treats, but didn’t eat. Leaned slowly away when attempted touch. Sprayed feliway. 10/24/17 Curled up by the back of cubby, blinks softly and lip licks when approached. She shifts away when hand extends, hesitant of contact, and wraps her tail tightly around her body. She pulls away each time hand extends, but relaxes whenever hand retreats. She tolerates gentle petting with an extremely slow approach, but flinches each time she’s touched and appears very uncomfortable. Does not hiss or display distance-increasing behaviors, but very nervous and unsure. Sprayed feliway.
Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:: Beans remains tense, tightly curled up at the back of the cage cubby.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Beans becomes alert with eyes wide open.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Beans began to lip lick, stiffen up with ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Beans is hesitant, leans away from the assessor’s hand, but when touched she shows no interest with the interaction.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Timid,Independent
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Beans may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to his new home and family at his own pace.
