*** SAFE 02/07/18*** Look A Like Brown Tabby Brothers! AXIS & AXEL Abandoned Together! Axel is at risk for behavior reasons. Axel does solicit attention, and tolerates petting, but can be assertively demanding of attention, is easily overstimulated, and plays roughly. Medically, we have no concerns for Axel, who presents as a healthy cat.
AXEL is very upset at being dumped in the shelter. His owner had someone else do his “dirty work” so it shows he came in as a “stray” but owner is known. AXEL needs a new home to decompress asap. Please help this poor frightened boy.

Spay/Neuter status: Yes
If yes, Please elaborate:: Axel is a 4 year old, DSH brown and white male tabby. He was surrendered by a friend of the owner, the owner did n
KNOWN HISTORY:: Axel was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 01/29/18 Hissing, spitting, growling
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 01/30/18 Lying on top of kuranda bed, body tense and head lowered onto ground. He lifts his head and hisses when spoken to, ears flattening and pupils dilated. Uncomfortable, needs more time to adjust. 02/03/18 At the front of the kennel, rubbing up against the door. His tail sways and he rolls around playfully. He leans in for attention, gives head butts and allows petting very gently along his back. Gets overstimulated very easily; whips around and vocalizes when pet for too long.
Cage Condition:: Cage is slightly re-arranged
Reaction to assessor:: Axel was relaxed and rubbing up against the kennel door.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Axel chirps and continues to solicit attention.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Axel pauses and becomes focused on the assessor.
Reaction to touch:: Axel’s tail quivers and he leans forward slowly to sniff the assessor’s hand. He head butts, arches his back and allows gentle petting on his head and body. His tail thrashes around with every soft pass and he quickly whips around and hisses when pet for too long.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Lively
VOCAL:: Somewhat chatty
CHARACTER TYPE: : Bold,Affectionate
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Overstimulation
Potential challenges comments:: Axel is social and affectionate but appears to be easily overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Axel becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:: None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Axel solicits attention and tolerates petting but may be assertively demanding of attention or may play roughly. Due to Axel getting overstimulated, we feel that this cat will do best in an adult only home.
