ATHENA – A1075079
Gone - 5-31-2016 Brooklyn
***GONE 05/31/16*** FRIGHTENED! The ACC may have her written down as a stray, but terrified ATHENA may just have stepped outside for a bit of fresh air, the day she was taken to the ACC and locked into a cell. The shelter commented about her clean coat and lack of external parasites, which are two features that more often apply to lost pets, than to life-long strays. Athena has some dental disease but the thing that’s worked against her the most, is her intelligence. Athena is smart enough to know danger when it surrounds her, which may be why she didn’t turn herself inside-out in an attempt to suck up to the ACC staff. Her understandable behavior toward her oppressors has played out in a NEW HOPE rating, which is why Athena needs all the help she can get in finding a foster/adopter tonight!

05/28/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Our enrichment facilitator has interacted with Athena and at the time she had wide eyes. Athena allows petting with a slow approach. She comes forward slowly and leans in for attention. She seemed unsure and meows loudly. Reaction to assessor: Athena was hiding when I approach cage When spoken quietly: Athena continues to hide Reaction to door cage opening: Athena becomes was alert Reaction to touch: Athena hisses and does not allows petting at all Try picking cat up: Did not attempt to pick up due to fractious behavior. Behavior Determination: NewHope Athena was brought to the care center as a stray so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies previous to what we are seeing during the evaluation. She seems to not be thriving in this environment and at the time of the assessment she was displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room. Athena may require further investigation before placement in a home. She is extremely fearful and currently does not tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
