I came into the shelter as a stray on 07-Jan-2018.

Aries is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other cats. Aries has been friendly and allowed handling in the care center.

Aniscoria noted on rounds S/O: BARH. Initially attention seeking, allowed handling, started retreating to back of cage and hissing during exam. Food untouched. Clean litter. Staining on cage walls – nasal discharge vs aural discharge EENT: Aniscoria L>R, left third eyelid slightly elevated, mild mucoid nasal discharge, scant amount of red/brown debris AS, resented aural exam HL: No sneezing observed, normal RR/RE INTEG: Full coat MS: Ambulatory x 4 UG: Neutered A: Mild/early URI Aniscoria, elevated third eyelid – neurologic, not completely consistent with horners disease P: Rec doxycycline 1.5ml PO q24 x 10 days. Recheck appetite tomorrow. Continue to monitor while at BACC

Progress exam History: 1/13 diagnosed with URI and started on doxycycline. Anisocoria L>R noted. Noted lots of ear debris. Subjective: QAR very nervous at the back of the kennel. Food untouched. Mild anisocoria L>R. Objective: EENT: Very mild aniscoria L>R, no nasal or ocular d/c HL: No c/d, normal RR/RE, eupneic INTEG: GHC MS: Ambulatory x 4 NEURO: A&A A: Mild URI Aniscoria, elevated third eyelid – otitis externa, neurologic, not completely consistent with horners disease P: Continue doxycycline until 1/22 Start tresaderm AU BID x14d until 1/28 Start erythromycin OU BID until 1/22 Give one dose mirtazapine 3.75mg PO Recheck appetite 1/16 Continue to monitor while at BACC Good prognosis

KNOWN HISTORY:: Aries was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: very friendly, enjoys being pet and allows all handling
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 01/08/18 Lying in litterbox with a neutral body, ears forward. He stands up as I open the kennel door and comes forward to allow petting. Allows petting along head and body with tail raised. Doing great after first day!
Cage Condition:: Cage is slightly re-arranged
Reaction to assessor:: Aries meows softly at the assessor then gently rubs his cheeks against the cage door.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Aries continues vocalizing and was constantly rubbing his body against the cage furnishings.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Aries remains calm and relaxed.
Reaction to touch:: Aries leans in for attention and perks up when pet along his body. His tail sways back and forth increasingly as the assessor interacts with him, but he doesn’t display any further reaction. He rolls over on his side and nuzzles against the assessor’s hand for attention.
Reaction to being picked up:: Aries is calm, relaxed and allows all handling.
