SAFE 9/18/18 NEW PHOTO!! ARIEL here since June 22 (needs more months of isolation with placement): Release stipulation from DOH: Ariel requires a 6-month isolation for bite wounds of unknown origin. The isolation may be in the home and will require monthly vet visits until 4 months and monthly calls in the last two months. We will need proof of rabies vaccination for other pets in the home. If the rescue/adopter wants to isolate Ariel outside of NYC, they will need to provide written permission from the other DOH. A staff member writes : Ariel has come along way from his shy days . he still is quiet and enjoys his independence just playing with his scratcher and lounging around . however at the sight of food he begins to be your best friend an solicits attention . he LOVES FOOD !! So if your kind pf cat is an independent cat who also is perfect for a netflix and chill cuddle buddy and is a major foodi kraft is your man!!!

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
06/23/18
Observed Behavior – Very friendly and affectionate, allowed all handling.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:
06/23/18
Crouched body near the front of the kennel. Large, wide eye focused on my movements. Sniffs hand, then slowly leans in and accepts gentle petting on cheeks. Shifts body weight, rolls over on side . Timid initially, just needs time to warm up.Â

6/24/18
Lying in litter box, resting. Feint sleeps and lowers head when coaxed, ears tilting sideways. Opens eyes and sniffs hand when door opens, then accepts petting and warms up; she closes her eyes and leans in for cheek rubs. Perks up with treats, will even come all the way to the front to eat and allow petting all over. Doing well.

06/25/18
Lying down by the front, calm and relaxed. Lip licks and lowers head to rest, but allows petting all over and leans in for cheek rubs. Perks up with treats and will come all the way to the front to interact. Doing well.

06/26/18
Lying on top of kuranda bed, body low and neutral. Makes eye contact when spoken to. He raises his head as the kennel door opens and tolerates petting along his head and body while turning his head to watch my hand, tail wrapping around body. Perks up for treats – eats all treats offered. Unsure, needs more time to adjust.

06/27/18
Grooming at the front of the kennel. He turns his head to make eye contact, ears tilt forward. Moves away when I extend my hand forward. Timid, but allows gentle petting on his head and along his body. I was able to coax him forward with tuna. Slowly starts to build up confidence.

06/28/18
Crouched in front of kennel, ears forward. Vocalizing upon approach. He allows petting along head and body for a few moments before making an attempt to flee his kennel. Focuses back on interaction when I introduce treats – food motivated. Needs some time to warm up.

06/29/18
Grooming at the front of the kennel. He seems a little unsure of his surroundings. Looks around the kennel slowly, and sits still when I extended my hand forward. Accepts gentle petting on his head. Timid but allows petting with a slow approach. Food motivated- enjoys tuna puree. Needs more time to adjust.

07/03/18
Standing in back of kennel, ears forward and eyes alert. Face is slightly tense. I open the door and he comes forward for treat. Very food motivated. He shrinks back when touched so I click and reward each time he comes back forward for a treat, then when he tolerates a touch on the head. Will continue to clicker train – avoidant towards touch. Tail raises half way when pet, then he backs away and dodges my hand.

7/16/18
Resting by the back, but chirps and comes to the front when noticing me. Chirps when hand extends toward him, but retreats to the back and lies down. Comes forward again when offered treats and allows petting all over while eating. Seems mostly indifferent to interaction.
