07/06/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/06/16 19:21 Anchovy is an adult male DSH cat. His finder found him in her hallway and kept him for one week. Anchovy is friendly/outgoing with new people. He stayed with 9 and 13 year old children and was relaxed, playful, tolerant, and played gently with them. He stayed with 2 female cats and was relaxed and respectful with them. He didn’t bite/scratch anyone. He allowed his caretakers to pick him up and put him in a box. Anchovy’s finders describe him as friendly, affectionate, playful, and medium energy. He followed the children in his home. He slept on the edge of the bed. He ate 9 Lives dry cat food. He used a hooded litterbox with clumping litter and didn’t have accidents. He scratched a vertical carpeted scratching post and didn’t scratch furniture. Anchovy was tense with wide eyes and his tail curled tightly against him. He sat up and looked around from his box. He was tolerant while I pet him, picked him up, scanned him (-), collared him, positioned him for pictures, and put him in a carrier. He didn’t resist, retreat, or vocalize.

07/08/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Anchovy came into the care center as a stray. He stayed with his finder for a week, and was reported to be tolerant and gentle with the 9- and 13-year-old children in the home, and he also got along with two female cats in the home. He is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, and with a medium energy level. Anchovy does not appear to be as comfortable in the shelter environment. He has been tense, but tolerant of handling, since intake. When visited for his behavior evaluation Anchovy allowed petting but vocalized repeatedly (meowing) and remains in his litterbox. Reaction to assessor: Anchovy is in his litterbox when the assessor approaches. He looks up, eyes wide, ears slightly lowered. Reaction to cage door opening: Remains in place, tense. Reaction to touch: Anchovy meows when touched, but allows gentle petting on teh head and body. He does not relax or approach, but also does not retreat. Placement determination: Experience Anchovy tolerates attention and petting but appears to be stressed in the shelter. His behavior in his finder’s home for a week posed no concerns and may be appropriate for any level of experience, but since he appears to be so stressed in the shelter we recommend an experienced adopter who can help Anchovy adapt to his new home and new family at his own pace.
