01/11/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Alex was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. The finder reported she runs away when approached, but did not show any signs of aggression. She had a stiff posture and was fearful during her initial medical exam, but she allows all handling when interacted with slowly. Reaction to Assessor: Alex was lying low against the ground at the back of the cage. Reaction when softly spoken to: Alex looks at the assessor and blinks slowly. Reaction to cage door opening: Alex remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Alex was a bit hesitant, but she lifts her butt when pet on her lower back. She warms up with petting, slowly gets up, and shows interest in interacting with the assessor by inching forward little by little. Reaction to being picked up: Alex was tense during pick up, but softens when held. Placement Determination: Experience Alex tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. 1/15 update: After warming up, Alex appreciates attention from her caretakers: leaning in and purring. However, she is initially timid and will likely not thrive in the busy adoptions room.
