ENRICHMENT NOTES:
04/05/18
Lying in back of kennel, body low and tense. Watches me with wide eyes as I approach, then licks lips. She tolerates gentle petting along her head and body while flattening ears and continuing to maintain eye contact and lip lick. She sniffs treats offered and eats them as soon as I close the kennel door. Nervous and unsure, needs time to adjust. May respond to clicker training.
04/06/18
Lying down flat in the back of the kennel. Slow blinks when spoken to softly. Wouldn’t come forward when coaxed, not interested in treats. Squints when touched, ears bend slightly. Keeps her eyes focused on my hand as I pet her along her body. Seems very uncomfortable. Kept interaction short due to stress.
04/07/18
Lying down under her kuranda bed and hiding behind the blanket. Makes eye contact and starts lip licking, but she doesn’t get up or come forward when coaxed. She turns her head away as I approach. Flinches slightly when touched, her ears bend slightly and she tolerates slow petting along her body. Her eyes widen and she turns her head, following my hand when pet along her back. Needs more time to adjust.
04/08/18
Lying in back of kennel, body flat and tense. Head is lowered onto kennel floor. She leans away from me and flattens her ears as the kennel door opens. Tolerates soft and gentle petting with the bear-claw briefly before beginning to growl and stress meow. Not comfortable with interaction at this time. Not interested in treats – may be too focused on me. Needs more time to adjust. Put a lvl 2 volunteer sign up on her kennel as she has begun swatting when pet.
04/09/18
Lying beneath kuranda bed, towel draped to conceal her entirely. She lowers her body and flattens her ears when I lift the cage cover. Doesn’t at treats during interaction but when I make my way back to her kennel later on I see that the treats are gone and she mus have eaten them. Not interested in petting – limited interaction due to stress. I leave her some more treats and then leave her alone.
04/10/18
Lying down underneath the kuranda bed. Makes eye contact, rolls over on her side. Sniffs hand, accepts gentle petting. Chirps and nudges hand for attention. Inches forward for treats, keeps body lowered. Curious and looks around at surroundings. Follows hand when pet along he back. She bats at my hand when pet for too long. Lifts rear up and continues to vocalize. Possibly in heat.
04/11/18
Lying in back of kennel, body tense. She warms up once touched with the scratcher and leans in, accepting touch along her head and body. Back peddles slightly when pet along the lower back but mainly remains on her side and rolls over. Comes forward and continues to roll around with continued petting. Showing improvement – possibly in heat. Not too interested in treats.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:
Laid back
VOCAL:
Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE:
Timid
Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Fearful
Potential challenges comments:
Alandria has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:
Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar
TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:
None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:
Alandria tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
