Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Akers was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. Her finder reports she allowed them to pet her and pick her up. She was easily placed inside of her carrier. She allowed all handling upon intake and was very calm, eating food and did not try to run away. The medical team reports she became tense and nervous during her initial medical exam, but allowed all handling to be conducted. Reaction to assessor: Akers was resting upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Akers’s ears tilt sideways, but she doesn’t turn to face the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Akers turns to face the opening and remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Akers sniffs the assessor’s hand, but remains immobile as the assessor pets her on her head and body. She warms up slightly and will lean in for cheek rubs. Reaction to pick up: Akers remains soft during pick up, but buries her head onto the assessor’s arms when held. After a moment, she lifts her head and looks around, but continues to allow the assessor to pet her on her entire body. Behavior Determination: Experienced Akers tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents who will allow her time to adjust to her new surroundings.
