ADENA – A1065898
Safe - 3-4-2016 Brooklyn
*** SAFE 03/04/16 *** TERRIFIED KITTEN! ADENA is only guesstimated to be about 10 months old, and this youngster was brought to the ACC in a TRAP! That sets the stage for a smart guy to be extremely wary of his surroundings, which is reflected in Adena’s saucerlike eyes. This kitten is terrified and as such, he has spent no time sucking up to his captors. That has played out as a NEW HOPE rating which means that only a rescue group can save him tonight. Rescues need FOSTER/ADOPTIVE placements in order to save kittens like ADENA, so if that’s you, message [email protected] and our volunteers will assist you. SAVE ADENA TONIGHT!

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Adena was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. The enrichment facilitator has been monitoring Adena and reports he was very fearful and avoided contact when he entered the shelter. He would retreat to the back of the kennel and would flinch when touched. Reaction to assessor: Adena licks lip and is curled up at the back of the kennel. Reaction when softly spoken to: Adena arches his back and starts to low growl with his eyes focused on all movements. Reaction to cage door opening: Adena remains tense and motionless. Reaction to touch: Adena hissed and tried to bite when attempting to pet him. His ears bend flat and he continues to low growl throughout the entire interaction. He slowly turns his head towards the wall and starts to breathe heavily. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Adena is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to bite and does not currently tolerate handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
