04/21/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Somewhat chatty CHARACTER TYPE: Independent, Curious MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 04/13/17 – Calm in carrier, growls/hisses when taken out, allows physical exam with proper restraint ENRICHMENT NOTES: 4/17/17- Crouched at front, eyes dilated, rapid tail flicking, grumbling. Swatted through the bars when walking by. Seemed less stressed earlier in the day, agitated by increased room noise? Calmed when room quieted down, then became startled by another cat and started hissing and striking again. 4/18/17- Laying in litter box, eyes dilated but half closed, some tail flicking. Meowed when spoken to, then started to doze off. Became alert when door opened, started grumbling and more rapidly tail flicking. Flattened ears and leaned away from attempted touch. Ate treats after door closed. 4/19/17- Laying at the front, eyes dilated. Meowed when spoken to. Became very alert when shown assess-a-hand, rapid tail flicking. Retreated and moved to avoid touch, then came back up to the front for treats. 4/20/17- Very energetic today! At the front on approach, meowing. Played vigorously with mouth toy, jumping all around cage. Eventually settled, lay down at the front, looking around. Tolerated brief pets, then retreated with stiff posture. Came back to the front after door closed, ate offered treats. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Zoro looks neutral, sitting upright by the front during the approach. Reaction to cage door opening: Zoro becomes alert with eyes dilated and remains in place. Reaction to touch: Zoro chirps then pats down the assessor’s hand while his tail rapidly flicks. RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced, adult home only Zoro may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home. *** Please note that the cat is being treated for a medical condition at the time of the evaluation, and is receiving pain medication. We cannot be certain how this is affecting his behavior. His behavior may change when his medical condition is addressed and may lash out when in pain.
