Hello, my name is Zachary . My animal id is #10793. I am a desexed male black cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 6 months old. – P
I came into the shelter as a stray on 25-Oct-2017.
10/29/17 4:19pm Zachary 10793 is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other cats. Zachary would be a better fit on a home with experienced owners.

Objective EENT: purulent nasal d/c bilaterally,serous ocular d/c ou H/L: congested, eupneic Assessment: URI with conjunctivitis Plan: Start erythromycin ou BID x10d Start doxycycline 10mg/kg PO SID x10d Recheck at day 7, 10 Move to iso Prognosis: good

KNOWN HISTORY:: Zachary was brought into our care center as a stray, so we have no previous history available.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: At the front of the cage clinging onto the door. Vocal. No c/s/v/d but is congested with ocular and nasal d/
Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:: Zachary is lying along the side of his kennel with a flat body and vocalizing loudly as the assessor approaches.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Zachary makes eye contact and tilts ears when spoken to. He continues to vocalize.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Zachary backs away and continues to vocalize as the caged door opens.
Reaction to touch:: Zachary tolerates petting along his head and body while leaning away and turnign his head to watch the assessor’s hand as it passes along his back. Eyes are wide and ears are flat.

Potential challenges comments:: Zachary has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him/her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
