Blood Work Interpretation

S/O: Bloodwork shows moderate non-regenerative anemia, possible thrombocytopenia (automatic platelet reading is 0, but platelet clumps observed in periphery of blood smear, seem decreased). Rest of CBC and Chemistry unremarkable. T4 is wnl.
A: Anemia, possible thrombocytopenia DDx: Poor Nutrition, Blood parasite(s), Autoimmune, Open
P: 5 day letter has been sent. Recommend transfer to bluepearl or VERG for monitoring and possible transfusion.

Observed Behavior – Social and purring. Allows all handling with minimal restraint.

Oral Exam: Grade 1/4 dental dz; mm-moist; gums are hyperpigmented so more difficult to assess color and crt
PLN: No enlargements noted
H/L: NSR, NMA, Lungs clear, eupnic
ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated
MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, hair coat is slightly dirty (paws not white) and there were burs in the tail
CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities
Rectal: not performed
Assessment: Very thin (cat has lost >20% of BW since here previously)
Fair pending bloodwork results
Plan: Keep in medical pending bloodwork results. Offered canned food and was not interested, but readily ate dry food.

Other notes: Yohanus was reportedly found in someone’s yard. So little known history is available.
Yohanus allowed handling from counselor and stayed still during handling process. Did not shy from contact and allowed all handling for scanning, collaring and photographing.
Cage Condition: no change
Reaction to assessor: Looked up from hiding behind litter box and came forward after a little coaxing
Reaction when softly spoken to: Stays at front soliciting attention
Reaction to cage door opening: Yohanus remained soft and relaxed
Reaction to touch: Allowed head and body rubs and continued to rub on cage door
Reaction to being picked up: Allowed quick pick up
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Average
Johanus interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. After a little coaxing he can become very social and interactive. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
