A1124365 Yogi – Yogi is at-risk with a NHO determination. He appears neutral when approached for interaction, but will becomes stiff and alert when petting is attempted. He displays distance-increasing behavior during interactions and will hiss and swipe to avoid contact.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Steady VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Bold, Independent MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 9/5/17- Subjective: Bright, Alert, Responsive; timid but able to handle for exam ENRICHMENT NOTES: 9/6/17 Crouched on bedding, head down, eyes dilated. Became alert when door opened, lifted head, shifted backwards, whiskers straight out. Flattened ears, hissed, and struck assess-a-hand when attempted touch. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Yogi remains tense, crouched down hiding in the cage cubby during the approach. Reaction to cage door opening: Yogi retreats with an intense gaze, ears erect and forward. Reaction to touch: Yogi distance increases, flinches in place, swats (no claws) and hisses at the assessor’s hand. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Yogi is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
