*** SAFE 05/06/16 *** WINTER’S OWNER MOVED TO A NON-PET FRIENDLY HOME AND NOW POOR WINTER IS GOING TO DIE BECAUSE SHE IS AFRAID! WINTER is an affectionate, playful kitty who lived with children and a small dog. She is shy around strangers but was very comfortable with her family. Sadly, they left her behind and WINTER is VERY upset and was punished with a NEW HOPE rating. She is a young spayed 5 year old who would warm up in time to a new “purrson”. But you only have til 12 noon Thursday to save her life. WINTER NEEDS A HERO TONIGHT – CONTACT A RESCUE NOW TO GIVER HER A HAPPY ENDING TO HER STORY!

I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 05/01/2016 from NY 11420, owner surrender reason stated was LLORDPRIVA.

05/01/16 21:45 Winter is a five year old gray tabby, she was surrendered by her owner due to owner moving into a facility that does not accept pets. She was with her owner since she was a few weeks old and is described as affectionate, loving, and shy. Winter has lived with four adults and two children. Around strangers she is shy and takes days to warm up to new people. Owner stated she is very affectionate once she warms up. She engages in somewhat rough play and will swat when she plays. She has not been around other cats. She lived with a Yorkie in the home and is described as reaxed and affectionate with the dog. She has never bitten another animal or person. Winter was not bathed, had her nails trimmed or was brushed by owner. She is not bothered when placed in a carrier or when she is picked up. Owner stated Winter will scratch at the edge of the walls and had a cat condo in the home. Winter’s activity level is described as high, owner stated she is very busy and likes to play around the home. She was kept only indoors and slept in her owners bed. She eats dry food Purina brand and is fed twice a day. She is litterbox trained and uses an uncovered litterbox and clay litter. Upon intake Winter was relaxed and allowed al handling. Counselor was able to collar, scan (negative) and photograph. She became irritated when being placed in the carrier, began to hiss and swatted counselor.

As per previous owner, Winter has lived with four adults and two children. Around strangers she is shy and takes days to warm up to new people. She is very affectionate once she warms up. She engages in somewhat rough play and will swat when she plays. Winter has not been around other cats however she lived with a Yorkie in the home. She is described as relaxed and affectionate with the dog. Winter’s activity level is described as high, her previous owner stated she is very busy and likes to play around the home Our enrichment facilitator has interacted with Winter and at the time she allowed no contact. Winter low growls when door opens. She also swats and hisses with her ears bend flat. Reaction to assessor: Winter does not come to front but remains neutral When spoken quietly: Winte hisses and growls loudy Reaction to door cage opening: Winter strikes the cage door Reaction to touch: Winter growls, hisses, strikes and does not allows petting at all Try picking cat up: Did not attempt to pick the cat up due to fractious behavior Behavior Determination: NewHope Winter seems to not be thriving in this environment and at the time of the assessment Winter was displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room. Winter may require further investigation before placement in a home. She is extremely fearful and currently does not tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
