Winnie came in with a few other kitties and was a bit nervous in the shelter environment. We are able to pet her but would do better in a home environment.

04/20/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/20/17 14:36 Finder was able to put food into a carrier and get Winnie to go into the carrier without picking her up. Finder stated that Winnie does not allow to be touched on her body and will hiss, swat and run away when someone tries to pet her. She comes from a home with 6 other cats in it and was always relaxed and respectful around the other animals. She has never been around dogs so behavior is unknown. Finder stated that Winnie is litter box trained and used an uncovered litter box with clumping litter in the home. She ate both wet and dry food (brand not given). Behavior during intake: Winnie was lip licking and had a stiff body during intake. When in the den, she went to the back with a stiff body. Counselor was able to scan for a mc and take a picture but was not able to collar.

04/27/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Winnie was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. Her finder was able to lure her into a carrier with food. They stated she does not allow to be touched on her body and will hiss, swat, and flee if petting was attempted. Her finder reports she lived in a home with 6 other cats and was relaxed and respectful around them. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – trying to flee, very fearful, examined in net EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Winnie is hiding inside a den. Reaction when softly spoken to: Winnie retreats and is tense. Reaction to cage door opening: Winnie remains tense and has wide eyes, searching for an exit. Reaction to touch: Winnie moves away to avoid touch, freezes when she is being touched. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Cannot assess VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish, Independent POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: – Fearful – Winnie has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced, adult home only – Winnie tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
