Watermelon is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection, which is contagious to other cats. Behaviorally, we have no concerns for Watermelon, whom we believe would be suitable even for beginner cat homes.

[Spay/Neuter Waiver – Upper Respiratory Illness] Your newly adopted animal is in treatment for an upper respiratory illness. The veterinarian is temporarily waiving this animal from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY until such time as the illness has resolved and the pet has sufficiently recovered. Recheck for uri, in iso: S/O: QAR, mildly dehydrated; drikning water, not sure if eating – OU mod. clear ocular d/c, mild sneeze/congested – small puncture/swelling on top of head, with hair shaved = expressed area and yielded a large amount of purulent discharge A: mod URI with abscess on top of head P: cwct tx + clean wound + Onsior 0.38 ml SQ SID x 3 days + Clavamox (62.5 mg/ml) 1 ml PO BID x 7 days + recheck

Presented with small scab on top of head that was noted after intake exam; today, ACS noted that scab had fallen off and there was open wound on top of head S/O -QAR, unsocialized but docile -no nasal discharge or sneezing -OU: mild blepharospasm, mild epiphora -eupnic -superficial open wound on top of head with mild serousanguinous discharge; no significant swelling, allows gentle palpation of area A 1. URI/conjunctivitis-improving 2. Wound P -convenia 0.4 ml SQ

Behavior Condition: 1. Green
Watermelon was lying down in his carrier with his head up. He was tolerant and didn’t react noticably when I pet him, scanned him (-), collared him, picked him up, and placed him in a new carrier.
Basic Information:: Watermelon came to ACC after his owner passed away.
KNOWN HISTORY:: Watermelon was brought in as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 2/1/18 Observed Behavior -plaintive meows
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 02/01/18 Resting upon approach, breathing sounds really congested. No reaction when spoken to, but blinks softly when door opens. Accepts petting and leans in slightly for rubs, but mostly stays in place and continues to rest.
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Watermelon engages when approached by the assessor.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Watermelon remains soft in place.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Watermelon seeks affection, leans forward with tail up and remains at the front of the cage, soft and relaxed.
Reaction to touch:: Watermelon head bunts the assessor’s hand and appreciates petting on the head and body.
Reaction to being picked up:: Allows the pickup and remains calm.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow
VOCAL:: Talkative
