***SAFE 11/09/17 ** Owner surrendered 10 year old Venus to the shelter. She is already spayed but has some issues. Venus has a thyroid nodule and should be tested for hyperthyroid condition. She also has dental issues that need attention and a heart murmur. This sweet senior needs a new home with someone who will give her the care she needs.

Hello, my name is Venus. My animal id is #11882. I am a desexed female white cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 10 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 06-Nov-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving – no pets allowed.
Venus is at risk due to her medical complications as well as she being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other cats. Venus behavior while in the care center has been good. very calm and relaxed cat.

[DVM Intake] DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 10 years Microchip noted on Intake? no History : surrender Subjective: QAR, hydrated Observed Behavior -friendly, allows exam and treatment with minimal restraint. Evidence of Cruelty seen -no Evidence of Trauma seen -no Objective P =140 R =wnl BCS: 4/9 EENT: cross-eyed, ears clean, slight mucoid nasal discharge from left nostril no ocular discharge noted. Small t-nodules palpable Oral Exam: oligodontia, grade 4 periodontal disease, faucitis PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, 3/6 holosystolic murmur, strong pulses, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: female spayed, no mgts or dc MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, unkempt hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment: 1. heart murmur 2. periodontal disease/faucitis 3. nasal discharge: rule out secondary to periodontal disease 4. thyroid nodule rule out hyperthyroidism/with secondary cardiomyopathy. Prognosis: guarded Plan: 1. cbc/chem 21 with lytes/TT4 2. given 0.4 ml convenia sq 3. given 1 mg dexamethasone im for faucitis 4. pend bloodwork, recommend tx if hyperthyroid 5. consider periodontal therapy when stable. continue to monitor at ACC SURGERY: already altered
Progress exam-URI, HM, thyroid slip History: o/s 11/6. Had nasal d/c, dental disease, HM, and thyroid slip. Given convenia, dexmethasone, and set up in medical. Subjective: QAR, ~5-6% dehydrated. No c/v/d but is sneezing and congested. Ate well when encouraged dry and canned food. Objective BCS: 4/9 EENT: cross-eyed but no ocular d/c, ears clean, purulent nasal discharge bilaterally Oral Exam: oligodontia, dental disease PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: difficult to assess due to purring but eupneic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: FS, no mgts, no vulvar dc MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, unkempt hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment: URI Grade 3/6 HM Periodontal disease/faucitis Anemia Hyperproteinemia with hyperglobulinemia Prognosis: guarded Plan: CBC-mild anemia 28.7 (30.3-52.3), mild monocytosis 0.93 (0.05-0.67) Chem-hyperproteinemia 9.9 (5.7-8.9) with hyperglobulinemia 7.4 (2.8-5.1) T4-wnl 1.4 Rec AUS Start doxycycline 10mg/kg PO SID x10d until 11/17 Start LRS 20ml/kg SQ SID x3d until 11/9 continue to monitor at ACC

Basic Information:: Venus is a 10 year old altered female White and chocolate Point Dsh, she came to her home 10 year ago and was being surrendered due the owner moving in apartment that does not allow pets.
How is this cat around strangers?: Around strangers Venus is friendly and outgoing will approach and allow petting.
How is this cat around children?: Around children Venus is relaxed and gentle.
How is this cat around other cats?: Venus has lived with 2 other cats. Around the cats she keeps to herself.
How is this cat around dogs?: Around the male small dog in the home she was relaxed and approached him sometimes and played with him.
Behavior Notes: Venus does like to scratch on wood. She enjoys being brushed and likes being held and rubbed. Venus does struggle to go in or out of the carrier.

For a New Family to Know: Venus is described as Friendly affectionate and playful, with a high activity level. Venus likes to give high fives. Venus is feed dry and wet food 3-4 times a day. She is litter box trained and uses an uncovered box with crystal or clumping litter. Venus had a vertical scratching post made of fabric and carpet.
