Velvet came to the shelter as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment. Upon intake, Velvet allowed limited handling. Reaction to assessor: Velvet is curled up in the back of her cubby. Reaction when softly spoken to: Velvet looks at the assessor with wide eyes. Reaction to cage door opening: Velvet remains still, visibly shaking. Reaction to touch: Velvet hisses, but allows some soft petting. Placement Determination: Experience No Child Velvet does not approach the assessor or solicit petting, and appears nervous and tense. Velvet is exhibiting behavior suited to experienced cat parents with no children who can allow her appropriate adjustment time to a new home environment.
