09/19/16 13:17 Basic Information: Velvet is a 13 year old domestic short hair cat who was surrendered due to her previous owner being evicted. Socialization: Around strangers Velvet is shy for a couple of minutes and doesn’t play with adults. Velvet has never been around children or dogs so it is unknown how she will react to being around them. Velvet has lived with two other cats and was relaxed and affectionate around them. Behavior: Velvet has never bitten another person or animal and will often scratch on furniture covered in fabric. Velvet has never been in a car so it is unknown how she will react to being in one. Velvet’s previous owner did not attempt to give Velvet a bath or trim her nails. Velvet enjoys being brushed and placed in a carrier. Velvet isn’t bothered by people picking her up/holding her or disturbing her while she is resting/sleeping. For a New family to Know: Velvet is described as: friendly, mellow, shy, fearful and talkative with a medium activity level. When at home Velvet will follow around her owner and doesn’t play with toys. Velvet was kept indoors only and was fed both wet and dry food. Velvet is litter box trained and used an uncovered litter box with sand litter. Velvet used a scratching post made of carpet. Intake Behavior: Velvet was a little nervous during her intake but allowed staff to collar, scan for a microchip and take pictures with no signs of aggression.

As per previous owner, Velvet is shy around strangers for a couple of minutes and she doesn’t play with adults. She has lived with 2 other cats and was relaxed and affectionate around them. Velvet enjoys being brushed and doesn’t mind being picked up/held or being placed in a carrier. Her owner describes her as friendly, mellow, shy, fearful, and talkative with a medium activity level. Reaction to assessor: Velvet was resting on her blanket near the front of the kennel. Reaction when softly spoken to: Velvet becomes alert then leans forward to sniff the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Velvet remains neutral. Reaction to touch: Velvet sniffs the assessor’s hand and allows petting all over her body. After a few soft passes she rises up, lightly brushes up for attention then lightly head butts her litter box. She becomes more confident and appreciates attention. Reaction to being picked up: Velvet is a bit tense when held, lip licks and looks around wary of her surroundings. Behavior Determination: Average Velvet interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.

9/21/16 Geriatric exam O: QARH. Very shy, hiding in back of cage but allows all handling. mm=pink, moist. Oral: Mild calculus and gingivitis. EENT: No oculonasal discharge. H/L: No murmurs. ABD: Palpation NSF. MS: Fair body condition, would not ambulate during exam. A: Apparently healthy geriatric cat, minimal dental disease for her age. P: prognosis good.
