***SAFE 09/04/16 ***SECOND CHANCE FOR VANILLA TONIGHT!! PLEASE MAKE IT COUNT! VANILLA HAS A “NEW” PHOTO – BUT JUST ANOTHER STELLAR PHOTOGRAPH BY THE ACC…..VANILLA is really up against it and we’re not just talking about her photo or lack thereof…..VANILLA is an adult cat (6 years old) who has probably lived on her own for a fair amount of time and has had little to do with humans…..She came in loaded with fleas, a loose tooth and discharge in one of her eyes. VANILLA is totally terrified….She is New Hope only and needs a rescue pull if she is going to live past noon tomorrow…..THE RESCUES NEED FOSTERS….Many cats are dying because there is no one to take them. NYC rescues are basically foster homes. They need people to step up!! IF YOU CAN STEP UP FOR VANILLA, PLEASE CONTACT A NEW HOPE RESCUE NOW!! If you need help finding a NEW HOPE rescue, email us at [email protected]

09/02/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Vanilla was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. Reaction to assessor: Vanilla was hiding in her feral den at the back of the kennel. Reaction when softly spoken to: Vanilla has wide eyes focused on the assessor through the den. Reaction to cage door opening: Vanilla remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Vanilla hisses with ears bent flat and charges forward trying to swat. She low growls then retreats to the back and currently doesn’t allow any handling. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Vanilla is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat and is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
