Vadar A1114415 was placed At Risk for New Hope Only behavior determination; Previous owner reports she is friendly around strangers, but she is displaying extreme signs of stress in the shelter environment. She becomes tense and alert when approached for interaction and appears interested, slowly sniffing the assessor’s hand, but will display distance-increasing behaviors when petting is attempted and does not allow petting at this time.

07/11/17 15:12 Basic: Vader is a 13 year old spayed domestic shorthair. The owner was gifted Vader by a friend. Vader does not have any health concerns the owner knows about, she just took Vader to the vet a few weeks ago. Socialization: Around strangers, Vader is friendly and she has lived with children. Vader has lived with a 1 year old and a 16 year old and she plays very gently with them. Vader also plays very gently with adults. Vader has never lived or interacted with any other cats or any dogs. vader has never bitten or scratched another animal or a person. Behavior: Vader has recently started to urinate outside of her litterbox ever since the owner changed the furniture around. Vader cries when she is in a car. Vader has never been bathed but she has had her nails trimmed and she is not bothered by that and she also loves to be brushed. Vader likes to be picked up and held and she is not bothered when being put in her carrier. For a New Family to Know: Vader is described as very friendly and affectionate. Vader has a moderate activity level. The owner’s favorite thing about vader is that she is very calm, sweet, and playful. Vader loves to watch television! When someone is home, Vader tends to follow them around the house. Vader likes to smack around balls that are lying around from the baby. Vader has been an indoors only cat her entire life. For food, Vader is fed Meow Mix and Blue Buffalo dry food, she is free fed. Vader loves the Friskies treats! vader uses a hooded litterbox with clumping clay. Vader does not scratch furniture or other items, she uses a carpet scratching post instead.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: Steady VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Timid KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: adults, a 1 year old and a 16 year old Behavior toward strangers: friendly Behavior toward children: plays very gently with them Bite or Scratch history: yes Litter box training: Yes, but recently started to urinate outside of her litter box ever since the previous owner changed the furniture around. Other notes: described as very friendly and affectionate with a moderate activity level. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 7/12/17- Subjective: Hissing and growling from inside the cat den ENRICHMENT NOTES: 7/12/17- At front on approach, eyes dilated, tense. Became extremely agitated during attempt to move out for medical exam. Began hissing, growling, screaming and striking. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Vader looks tense, crouched position on her cage bedding during the approach. Reaction to cage door opening: Vader began to hiss with eyes dilated, ears flat and sideways. Reaction to touch: Vader slowly sniffs the assessor’s hand then slowly distance increases while she growls and remains cautious with her surroundings. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Vader is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She is stressed in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.

DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: Reported 13 years old – exam is consistent with this Microchip noted on Intake? Scan negative History : Reported to have been vomiting and urinating outside the litter box for at least several weeks (since June). Was taken to the ASPCA but per the client, the ASPCA didn’t find anything wrong. Subjective: Hissing and growling from inside the feral den. Put in Freeman net for exam. Pt growled and yowled throughout the exam, and wouldn’t tolerate a complete exam. Objective BAR, BCS 7/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal discharge noted Oral Exam: Unable to perform. PLN: Not palpated H/L: NSR, NMA Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Tense, large so difficult to palpate, no masses palpated U/G: Female, reported spayed MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment: 1. Vomiting and inappropriate urination – R/O medical condition (diabetes, other) vs. stress-related 2. Overweight Plan: Running CBC/chemistry Prognosis: Fair 1088
