02/26/18
Tense and crouched at back of cage.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:
02/27/18
Lying on top of kuranda bed, body flat and tense. Pressed up against kennel wall. She lifts her head as I place treats next to her and sniffs the air. Eats a couple of them before turning to watch me and licking lips, tail curling around feet. She tolerates petting along her head and body while leaning in very gently with her head. Finishes treats after cage door is closed. Timid and unsure, has potential to warm up.
02/28/18
Lying in litterbox with a tense body, eyes squinted shut. She tolerates petting along her head and body while tilting her ears, head shrinking into neck and body tensing further. I cannot offer her treats today because she is due for surgery. May be uncomfortable due to room change. Needs more time to adjust.
Cage Condition:
Cage is slightly re-arranged
Reaction to assessor:
Uzo was tense and crouched inside her litter box.
Reaction when softly spoken to:
Uzo lip licks, then turns her head away and shrinks her body when the assessor tried coaxing her forward.
Reaction to cage door opening:
Uzo remains motionless.
Reaction to touch:
Uzo seems very uncomfortable and leans away when the assessor tries making contact. She flinches slightly when touched and closes her eyes, but slowly starts to open up and gain confidence with attention. She arches her back and tilts her head, allowing petting and rubbing on her cheeks.
Reaction to being picked up:
Uzo was tense when held and struggled to be put down.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:
Laid back
VOCAL:
Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE:
Timid
Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Fearful
Potential challenges comments:
Uzo has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
