Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Urban was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He displayed fractious behavior upon intake, attempting to flee when attempting to transfer him into another carrier. He displayed distance-increasing behaviors when approached. The medical team reports he did not allow any handling during his initial medical exam. Reaction to assessor: Urban was perched on top of his den, stiff and alert when approached. Reaction when softly spoken to: Urban backs away, his eyes darting back from the assessor to his surroundings. Reaction to cage door opening: Urban continues to look around and crouches down. Reaction to touch: Urban sniffs the assessor’s hand when extended slowly, but shifts away in an attempt to avoid contact. He allows gentle strokes on his body, but crouches over and looks around, shifting in preparation to flee. He stress meows during the interaction, but does not display any further reaction and will flee into his den to hide. Behavior Determination: Experienced, No Children Urban tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
