***SAFE 07/21/17 A volunteer writes: Tyler is a shy, demure lady. Once you introduce yourself, the way to her heart is through her stomach. She adores nibbling on cat treats. Tyler also has an endearing habit of drinking water with her paw. She scoops it up out of her bowl and sips it until she is full. This method is lots of fun and serves its purpose of keeping her hydrated. She has lived with adults and a child and is recommended to go to a family experienced with all the mysteries of the world of cats. Tyler has also been know to participate in yoga sessions. If you are looking for a nice, mellow companion, walk this way and take Tyler into your home.

KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: Adults, 9 year old child Behavior toward strangers: Shy, tends to stay in her cupboard or bedroom until they leave Behavior toward children: Very affectionate and plays gently Behavior toward cats or dogs: Unknown Bite or Scratch history: Has bitten owner before Litter box training: Yes, uses an uncovered litter box with clumping litter Energy level/descriptors: Tyler is described as a friendly, confident, and independent cat with low energy. Other notes: She loves to sleep and join her owner while she does yoga in the mornings. Tyler loves to play with string. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – Growling before being inside the net. Not resisting handling while in the net. ENRICHMENT NOTES: 06/19/17 Lying in back of kennel with a tense low body, tail wrapped around her. She tolerates petting while tilting her ears and licking her lips. Shifts her weight when pet along her body. Needs more time to adjust. 06/21/17 Lying towards the center of her kennel, slightly tense with ears tilted. She relaxes when spoken to (ears shift forward and she head-butts the kennel door). She scoots forward when I open the kennel door and allows petting along her head and body, leaning in and raising her butt in the air when pet along the back. 06/23/17 Tense and wary of her surroundings. She keeps her body lowered and slowly inches forward; looking around and scanning her surroundings. Perks up when touched, leans in for attention. Tail becomes erect, rubs against my hand and enjoys being pet all over. Very food motivated, loved the Greenies treats. She opens up a lot; starts purring and kneads on her blanket. She tensed up and became focused when someone entered the room. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is slightly re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Tyler was lying down, calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Tyler stretches before approaching the front and rubs on the cage door. Reaction to cage door opening: Tyler greets the assessor by the opening. Reaction to touch: Tyler sniffs the assessor’s hand and leans in for rubs. Her tail rises slowly and she begins to purr. With more attention, she lies down and rubs against objects in her kennel. Reaction to being picked up: Tyler becomes tense, but allows handling. After a moment, she wiggles to be placed back down.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Timid initially, Sweet, Cautious POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: – Fearful – Tyler’s previous owner reports she is fearful of strangers and have bitten before presumably startled by something. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they believe they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced cat parent – Tyler interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. Although she is social, due to an incident in her previous home, we recommend she goes to a home with experienced, cat parents.
