05/09/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Twister was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Initially allowed all handling, exploring surroundings, during exam started growling and hissing, no swatting/striking or biting ENRICHMENT NOTES: 05/07/17 At the front of the kennel when I approach. Makes eye contact when spoken to and leans in abruptly when pet on the head. She then whines and flattens her ears, body becoming tense a second later. Conflicted – needs more time to adjust. 05/08/17 Sitting crouched in center of kennel. She tolerates petting along her head and body with minimal reaction – closes her eyes. Seemed calmer today, or may be uncomfortable. Needs more time to adjust. 05/09/17 Up and about, eating her food. Moves away when I approach the kennel. Alert, ears tilted forward, makes eye contact but doesn’t come forward when coaxed. Leans in to sniff, accepts petting/rubs on head and along her body. Tail lowered slightly and she seems more interested in her environment. Body feels a bit tense, occasionally lip licks. Doesn’t show much interest when interacting with me. She whips around and vocalizes when rubbed near the base of her tail. Doesn’t mind being picked up/held. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Independent RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced cat parent – Twister may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
