Safe - 2-8-2016 Brooklyn Rescue: Happy Homes Please honor your pledges: http://www.happyhomesinc.org/
**SAFE 02/08/16** NEW HOPE RESCUE is needed for two baby girls, tonight! TUTU and BOP are both stunning young ladies who are a bit put off the the ACC. Who can blame them? Everything about the shelter is terrifying to an animal, and these kittens are only 6 months of age. They are still learning about the world, and don’t have years’ worth of being cared for by people to suggest that things might turn out okay if they just suck up to their captors. The truth is, things will NOT be okay for these girls unless a NEW HOPE RESCUE group steps up for them. Rescues can’t just pull cats and leave them hanging—these kittens need FOSTERS and ADOPTERS to serve as placments if they are to be saved. Please email [email protected] if YOU can foster/adopt through a New Hope rescue tonight, and if not? Please advocate widely for TUTU and BOP, tonight!

02/03/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
**Update – Tutu does not appear to be thriving in the shelter environment. She continues to retreat from contact and has not warmed up to her caretakers or to interaction since she came in a week ago. We feel that it is in Tutu’s best interest to move into a stable home environment as quickly as possible.** Reaction to Assessor: Tutu does not come to the front, but remains neutral in her cage. Reaction when softly spoken to: Tutu focuses on the assessor and looks with wide eyes. Reaction to cage door opening: Tutu becomes stiff and alert. Reaction to touch: Tutu hisses and shifts away from the assessor’s hand. She focuses on it and her ears bend flat against her head as the hand gets closer to her. She hisses and does not allow touch; she strikes and retreats to the back. Placement Determination: New Hope Only Tutu is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time. Date: 01/30/16 Tutu was looked at before her evaluation. At the time she hissed and retreated to the back of the cage. Her ears were bend flat. She allowed petting but her eyes remained wide and focused on all movements. Reaction to assessor: Tutu did not come to front but remains neutral When spoken quietly: Tutu did not come to front but remains neutral Reaction to door cage opening: Tutu retreats further back Reaction to touch: Tutu runs to a different area of the cage to avoid being touched Try picking cat up: Tutu allows handling but appears uncomfortable Behavior Determination: Experience At the time of the assessment Tutu was displaying fearful behavior; does not seek attention from the assessor and becomes alert when the kennel was open. Retreats as I started to get closer. I was able to pet her and interact with her in a limited way. I was also able to pick her up and although she was tense no fractious behavior was display. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
