06/04/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Tracer was brought in as a stray, so we have no information on her behavior in her previous home. She tolerated all handling during intake and had a relaxed body posture. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – hissing, tense EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is slightly re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Tracer focuses on the assessor as they approach her kennel and starts to breathe rapidly. Reaction when softly spoken to: Tracer looks at the assessor and averts her gaze, her ears tilting slightly. Reaction to cage door opening: Tracer focuses on the opening and her eyes dilate. Reaction to touch: Tracer does not allow touch and hisses, spits, and strikes the kennel ground. Assessment ended there to reduce her stress levels. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Cannot evaluate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Timid BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Please note that Tracer is being treated for an upper respiratory infection at the time of the behavior assessment. This condition may affect some of the behaviors shown during evaluation. RECOMMENDATIONS: – Placement with a New Hope partner – Tracer is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat, is extremely uncomfortable in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
