***SAFE 10/11/17*** HANDSOME TOM NEEDS A RESCUE ANGEL TONIGHT!! TOM was brought in by someone who got him from her “patient” and surrendered him for no time! So poor Tom has been bounced around a bit – no wonder why he is upset. But Tom’s ex owner had this to say about him: “Tom is a friendly, affectionate, mellow, independent cat. He has a low activity level and loves to eat. When you are home he will follow you around and loves to play with string toys. He is indoors only and will sleep in his favorite spot on the sofa. He eats Friskies dry food that is available to him all day. He is litter box trained and uses a hooded litter box with clumping litter. He has never used a scratching post.” Tom would love to be back in a home again. He is a good boy and is only scared at the shelter. TOM IS NEW HOPE ONLY RATED AND MUST BE PULLED BY A NEW HOPE RESCUE BY NOON!!

For a new family to know: Tom is a friendly, affectionate, mellow, independent cat. He has a low activity level and loves to eat. When you are home he will follow you around and loves to play with string toys. He is indoors only and will sleep in his favorite spot on the sofa. Skittish
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Fearful
Potential challenges comments: Tom has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: New hope only
Behavior Asilomar TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Tom is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
