Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Previously lived with: Adults Behavior toward strangers: Shy Behavior toward children: Unknown Behavior toward cats: Hissed and hid from them Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Bite or Scratch history: None Litter box training: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Friendly and shy with a low activity level Other notes: He didn’t mind being picked up/held or placed in a carrier. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: allowed for p.e., however was growling. ENRICHMENT NOTES: 06/07/17 Lying curled up in back of kennel with flat ears. He hisses when the bear-claw reaches forward and tolerates petting while shifting his weight and wrapping his tail around his body. Needs more time to adjust. 06/08/17 At back of kennel with a low body and ears tilted. He eats the treats I offer so I try clicker training. I click each he comes forward to eat a treats. Still not ready for touch – growls whenever bear-claw approaches. Tolerates petting while backing away, ears flat and body tense. Needs more time to adjust. 06/09/17 Hiding all the way in the back of the kennel behind the blue cage cover. He growls, lip licks and curls up tighter. Seems pretty uncomfortable and turns his head away when spoken to softly. Very tense and alert when the door opened. He lowers his head and continues to low growl. He seemed to tolerate the bear claw; closes his eyes and feint sleeps. After a couple of minutes he tilts his head and seems to appreciate cheek rubs. He didn’t mind when I used my hand, still wary but opens up a little when rubbed on his cheek and neck. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Fearful – Tiger has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced, adult home only – Tiger tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
