Hello, my name is Tiger. My animal id is #15582. I am a desexed male orange tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 9 years 1 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 07-Dec-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving – no pets allowed.
Original Location: 10475
Tiger is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with Upper Respiratory Infection, which is contagious to other cats. We suggest that Tiger would be best suited to a cat experienced home.

Placed in Freeman net for exam, but pt was very quiet and still in the net and allowed full exam with scruffing Objective BAR-H, MMs pink and moist, BCS 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: Severe tartar and gingivitis PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: Male neutered MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: Normal externally Assessment: Dental disease Prognosis: Good Plan: Recommend dental cleaning in the near future, and daily tooth brushing 1088
Sneezing noted on Rounds. P has some seromucoid ocular and nasal discharge. BAR, no c/v/d, reportedly E/D normally. A: URI vs other P: moved to ISO start doxycycline 10mg/kg PO SID x 10 days vet check day 5 and 10

Upon intake, Tiger was meowing loudly. When I pet him on the head, his body jumped as if he was startled by my touch. Tiger allowed me to collar him and pet him and allowed me to carry him into his kennel.

Basic Information:: Tiger is a 9 year old male orange tabby and white domestic long haired cat. Tiger lived with previous owner for about 9 years. Tiger was surrendered because previous owner was moving to take care of her aunt and pets were not allowed. Tiger has no injuries or health problems and has not been taken to the vet recently.

How is this cat around strangers?: Tiger is friendly and outgoing with strangers. Tiger will approach strangers and sniff them and will allow to be petted and picked up.
How is this cat around children?: Tiger has interacted with children aged 1 years old and older. Tiger is playful and affectionate around children and will allow children to approach him and pet him.
How is this cat around other cats?: Tiger used to have play dates with previous owner’s next door neighbor who had 5 cats, male and female all altered Tiger was playful and affectionate with all 5 cats.
How is this cat around dogs?: Tiger has not interacted with dogs.
Behavior Notes: Tiger often meows too much at home. Tiger also likes to scratch furniture. During car rides, Tiger is meowing and crying.

For a New Family to Know: Tiger is an affectionate, playful, confident, independent and talkative cat. Tiger loves to play with balls and likes to bounce them and chase after them. Tiger was kept as an indoor only cat. Tiger used to sleep on his owner’s bed and was fed both wet and dry food twice a day. Tiger is litter box trained and used a hooded litter box with Fresh Step cat litter. Tiger had a horizontal scratching post made out of cardboard.

Potential challenges comments:: Tiger has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
