02/28/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Name and A#: A1104491 Thursday Date: 2/28/2017 KNOWN HISTORY: Thursday came to the shelter as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment. Upon intake, Thursday was nervous and attempted to flee. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Thursday is hiding in her den Reaction when softly spoken to: Thursday looks at assessor with wide eyes, from the front of the den Reaction to cage door opening: Thursday retreats to the back of the den Reaction to touch: Thursday shifts to avoid touch but allows some petting, not fractious MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Afraid ACTIVITY LEVEL: Low VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Skittish, Independent POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: _x_ Fearful – Thursday has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and will shift away to avoid extended handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. RECOMMENDATIONS: _x_ Experienced, adult home only – Thursday tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to her new home and family at his/her own pace.
