*** SAFE 01/12/18 *** TEMAKI came from a home of about 30 other cats. The owners are unfortunately being evicted and can’t keep them. So they lived with lots of other cats…please help this feline family today!
Brooklyn Center
Hello, my name is Temaki. My animal id is #17034. I am a desexed male black cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 1 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 27-Dec-2017, with the surrender reason stated as not a fit – too many animals already.
Temaki is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other cats. Temaki is nervous at first but does allows petting.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 12/28/17 Lying in litterbox with a low, tense body, face hidden behind box’s edge. Tolerates petting along head and body while remaining very still and tilting ears. Needs more time to adjust. 01/02/18 Lying on top of kuranda bed, body neutral and eyes alert. Comes forward to sniff my hand and vocalizes softly. He leans in when pet along the head and body, reaching out towards my hand and pulling it towards his head. Very sweet. He jumps off of his bed with continued petting and comes forward while kneading the kennel floor, tail raised. Did great today! 01/03/18 Lying on top of kennel, body relaxed. He raises his head and makes eye contact with soft eyes, then rolls over when spoken to. Allows petting along head and body while leaning in and reaching out towards my hand. He pulls my hand towards him and nudges his face against it. Very affectionate. He begins to nip and lick my hand with continued petting (pressure gentle, glove and skin not breaking). May be a sign of affection or may be a sign of overstimulation. Allowed all petting for duration of session. Did great today! 01/07/18 Crouched in back of kennel, body slightly tense. He warms up once touched and leans in for petting, raising his rear each time my hand passes along his back. A bit more tense than usual – doesn’t step forward or stand up. Feels more comfortable in the back of his kennel. May be feeling a bit uncomfortable due to his URI.
Cage Condition:: Cage is recently cleaned
Reaction to assessor:: Temaki was curled up on top his kuranda bed and watches the assessor with wide eyes.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Temaki keeps his body lowered, looks around the kennel and seems a little unsure of his surroundings.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Temaki rises up and leans forward to sniff the assessor.
Reaction to touch:: Temaki curls up tight and lowers his head when the assessor extends his hand out, but accepts gentle petting with a slow approach. He starts to build up confidence, nudges the assessor’s hand and allows petting all over. He still seems a bit unsure of his surroundings and stays on top his kuranda bed where he feels comfortable.
