10/10/16 13:47 Teddy was not handled durign this intake. Profile states: 09/25/16 12:54 Basic Information: Teddy is a 1 1/2 year old spayed female DSH that has no past or current medical issues that the owner is aware of. Owner has Teddy for a year but had to surrender to due landlord not allowing pets. Socialization: According to the owner, around strangers Teddy is shy for a few minutes at first. Once she warms up, she plays very gently with others. She has been around children of all ages & is shy at first & will hide but once she is comfortable she will play gently with children. Teddy comes from a home that had another cat in it & owner stated she was relaxed and affectionate with the other cat. She has never been around another dog therefore behavior is unknown. Teddy has never bit another animal or person while in the care of the owner. Behavior: In the car, Teddy will usually just sleep. She is afraid of having someone give her a bath, trim her nails, brush her coat and pick her up and hold her. She is not bothered by being put into a carrier or being disturbed while sleeping. For a New Family to Know: Teddy is described as friendly, affectionate, mellow, shy, independent, and quiet with a low activity level. In the home, she would like to follow the owner around and be in the same room as the owner. She enjoys playing with balls & string toys. Teddy was kept indoors only & is litter box trained. In the home, Teddy used an uncovered litter box with clumping litter. Owner did have a scratching post in the home that Teddy would use from time to time. She would also scratch at the furniture in the home. Owner fed Teddy dry food only brand name not given. Behavior during intake: Teddy was nervous at first. I was able to scan her for a mc, collar and take her picture without any issues. Once Teddy warmed up, she started purring and soliciting attention by rubbing against my hand.

10/20/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reaction to assessor: Teddy comes forward slowly and lightly brushes up against the kennel door. Reaction when softly spoken to: Teddy’s tail pilo- erects and starts to quiver as she rubs up for attention. Reaction to cage door opening: Teddy pauses then slowly makes her way to the back of the kennel. Reaction to touch: Teddy leans forward to sniff the assessor’s hand then lightly brushes up for attention. She allows petting but appears unsure of contact; constantly pulling away after she head butts then lip licks. Her body felt tense when pet and her tail started to sway back and forth the more the assessor interacted with her. Reaction to being picked up: Teddy is very tense when picked up, gets antsy then leaps back into the kennel. She retreats to the back and takes a moment before leaning in for attention. Behavior Determination: Experience Teddy interacts with the observer and appreciates attention, but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may become overstimulated with petting on her back. She may need time to warm up to her new home. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Teddy becomes reactive. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Any future home with children should conduct a thorough interaction before adopting.
